QuantaSol Ltd, the independent designer and manufacturer of tuneable ultra high efficiency concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) solar cells, has appointed Ian Jenks as Chairman and member of the board. Industry veteran Ian brings more than 20 years of experience in the technology industry, both as an investor and as a board member of operating companies in the U.S. and Europe.
Speaking about his new position Ian Jenks said, “QuantaSol is pioneering unique, world beating CPV solar cells that will deliver breakthrough performance improvements and enable the market for this new, lower-cost renewable electricity generating technology to take off and thrive. I look forward to making use of my experience in the company’s key markets to help drive QuantaSol’s growth and commercial success as the company transitions from a start-up developer to revenue generating company.”

Over his distinguished career Ian has served on the Boards of a wide range of technology companies including Altitun, CoreOptics, Crystal Photonics, Digilens, Novalux, Oplink, Symmorphix, Zolo Technologies, and currently Intune Networks. He has also fulfilled the role of President of the Laser and Fiber Optic groups of Uniphase Inc. (now JDS Uniphase) where he was responsible for the management of business operations in the United States, England, Switzerland and The Netherlands. He has also been a general partner with VC firm Crescendo ventures.
QuantaSol’s ultra high efficiency CPV solar cells offer system manufacturers a route to achieving breakthrough improvements in the performance of their CPV system whilst driving down the cost per kWh. Totally focused on the terrestrial application of CPV systems, QuantaSol’s cells achieve maximum efficiency and power output in ‘real world’ conditions, by utilising unique quantum well technology to ‘tune’ cells to absorb and convert more available light for maximum energy harvesting and efficiency gains. Following continual development to achieve ultra high efficient multi-junction cells, the company is driving toward volume production and its first product launch later this year.
