Crete: Conergy Greece builds 9 solar parks

Conergy Greece has completed 9 solar parks on Crete, the biggest and most touristic Hellenic island. The installations are located at different areas of the island in the Prefectures of Chania and Lasithi.

Most of the solar plants are equipped with Conergy¡¯s own technology. The solar experts have installed more than 2,500 Conergy PowerPlus Modules on Conergy SolarGigant and Conergy SolarLinea mounting systems. A total of 90 Conergy IPG 5 S inverters feed-in the clean sun power into the public grid of the touristic island.

Crete benefits of the highest irradiation levels in Greece. Thanks to these extremely favourable natural conditions, the solar parks will produce annually around 1.2 MWh of clean electricity while protecting the environment by saving more than 1,150 tons of the harmful greenhouse gas CO2 every year. This corresponds to the annual absorption of nearly 550 trees.

Conergy Greece-Chief Dieter Schmitt: ¡°The parks are small-- but mighty¡±

¡°The parks may be not the biggest of the world ? however, they are small but mighty¡±, says Conergy Greece-Chief Dieter Schmitt. ¡°The sun shine hours on the island are impressive. Due to the excellent conditions, we experience a great demand for our Conergy system technology also on the Greek islands. Our modules feature quality ¡®Made in Germany¡¯--this is an important factor for our investors since they can be sure to benefit from the high yields for the entire lifetime of the installation.¡±

The planning, designing and engineering process as well as the construction works in the remote locations were an interesting challenge to meet for the Conergy team and their partners. Project Manager Themis Lagorkopoulos said, ¡°Despite the obstacles that we faced in terms of the extremely rocky grounds and the big slopes of the fields, we managed to develop customer-fit solutions for every single installation: Some parks are equipped with SolarLinea mounting systems. At some others, where it was impossible to ram the posts, we designed with SolarGigant ground-mounted systems. This is where we benefit from our long-lasting knowledge at Conergy in the designing, engineering and installation of solar parks.¡±

More clean power on Crete to protect the most precious good--nature

The parks have been sold to different investors. Two out of the nine parks have been commissioned to the local investor Ioannis Stefanakis. ¡°We intended to implement more clean power on the island and protect our most precious good here-- nature. However, in order to realise this project, we needed a competent partner at our side to provide professional advice and expertise. We found this partner in Conergy since it was important for us to get everything from one source: from competent advice, to professional project planning all the way to its realization, the individual components, service and maintenance, and insurance. Conergy could offer us precisely this all-included service package. I am very satisfied with their professional work and am looking forward to further common projects with the Conergy solar experts.¡±
